Virtual IOP in New York: Programs, Eligibility & Next Steps

A virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) delivers structured addiction treatment by secure video, several days a week, while you keep living at home.

What virtual IOP involves

An IOP combines group therapy, individual counseling, and skill-building over several sessions each week. A virtual IOP delivers the same structure through telehealth. Standard outpatient care, by comparison, is usually 1 to 3 hours per week.

How it differs from weekly therapy

  • More contact time: multiple sessions per week instead of one.
  • A treatment team: counselors coordinate care and track progress.
  • Group work: peer support is part of the program.

Technology and privacy

  • A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and steady internet.
  • A private space where others cannot overhear sessions.
  • Ask what platform is used and how your information is protected. HHS explains your HIPAA rights.

Assessment and suitability

A clinical assessment decides whether virtual IOP is a safe fit. People with severe withdrawal risk, unstable housing, or medical needs may need a higher level of care first.

Long Island Treatment Center's virtual IOP

Long Island Treatment Center publishes a virtual IOP program delivered by telehealth, with sessions scheduled around work hours when possible. Confirm whether it is open to residents of your area. See the full provider profile.

Virtual therapy does not automatically include prescribing

Medication for opioid use disorder is a separate service that needs a qualified prescriber. If you want medication as part of your care, ask about it directly. Read how medication-assisted treatment works.

Questions to ask

  • How many days and hours per week, and at what times?
  • Is the program open to people living in New York City?
  • What will my plan cover? See insurance questions.
  • Can medication treatment be coordinated with the program?

Ask about treatment options

Admissions staff can explain services, assessment, and insurance verification. Asking is not a commitment, and a call does not book an appointment.

Calls go to Long Island Treatment Center admissions, the provider featured on this site.
